As a structural and functional integration material, open-cell aluminum foam has been widely applied in many fields. It is of significance to study its fabrication and properties. In this article, the compression properties of ultralight open-cell aluminum foam are studied in terms of base materials and pore grades. The base materials are divided into pure aluminum and 6061 aluminum alloy, while the pore grades range from 10 to 40 according to PPI (Pores Per Inch). Results show that better compression properties appear in aluminum foam with 6061 aluminum alloy as the base material, compared to the pure aluminum. Besides, the plateau stress decreases with the increase in pore grades. Reasons for the variation of the mechanical properties are also analyzed.
