Karyo-morphological studies have been carried out in three different species of the genus Cymbidium from North-eastern India. The somatic chromosome number (2n = 40) has been recorded in all the three species with distinct inter-speci c variation in the arm ratio of few homologous pairs in the complements. The karyotypes of the species were more or less symmetrical. The signicance of karyotypic variation in speciation of the genus Cymbidium has been discussed.
