Significance Quartz and/or cristobalite in eucrite were transformed into denser minerals, coesite and stishovite, under transient high-pressure and high-temperature conditions. Coesite and stishovite probably formed simultaneously under pressures of similar magnitudes but under different temperature conditions. The expected age of the dynamic event that formed coesite and stishovite isca. 4.1 Ga ago, which is inconsistent with the predicted formation age (ca. 1.0 Ga) of the impact basins on 4 Vesta.
