Data from the excitation of the 1335, 1835, 1920 and 1940 MeV states in 12C by the inelastic scattering of protons have been analysed using a fully microscopic distorted wave approximation to determine optimal assignments from amongst the current and ambiguous J π; T values of each state involved. While not conclusive, the present analysis suggests the assignments of 4-1; 0, 2-2; 0, 4-2; 0 and 22-2; 1 respectively.
