We have given theoretical expressions for the forces exerted on a quasi-2Dflat and smooth solid plate immersed into a liquid pool of a simple liquid. Allforces given by the theory, the local forces on the top, the contact line andthe bottom of the plate as well as the total force, showed an excellentagreement with the MD simulation results. We also revealed that the localforces around the bottom and top of the solid plate can be related to the SLand SV interfacial tensions \gamma_{SL} and \gamma_{SV}, and this was verifiedthrough the comparison with the SL and SV works of adhesion obtained by thethermodynamic integration. We have reached a conclusion that \gamma_{SL} and\gamma_{SV} as well as the liquid-vapor interfacial tension \gamma_{LV} can beextracted from a single equilibrium MD simulation without thecomputationally-demanding calculations.
