The Regge behaviour of the solutions of a Dirac hamiltonian describing aheavy quark-light quark system in high orbital angular momentum states isanalyzed. It is found that the solutions of a scalar confining potential arephysically admissible while those of a vector confining potential are not. Itis argued that with a Dirac hamiltonian a scalar confining potential ispreferred over a vector confining potential for any value of the orbitalangular momentum.Comment: 7 pages, Latex.
