We experimentally study the effect of near field coupling on the transmissionof light in terahertz metasurfaces, possessing slightly distinctive SRRresonances. Our results show that the interplay between the strengths ofelectric and magnetic dipoles, modulates the amplitude of resultingelectromagnetically induced transmission, probed under different types ofasymmetries in the coupled system. We employ a two-particle model totheoretically study the influence of the near field coupling between bright andquasi-dark modes on the transmission properties of the coupled system and wefind an excellent agreement with our observed results. Adding to the enhancedtransmission characteristics, our results provide a deeper insight into themetamaterial analogues of atomic electromagnetically induced transparency andoffer an approach to engineer slow light devices, broadband filters andattenuators at terahertz frequencies.
