The transition between different states in manganites can be driven byvarious external stimuli. Controlling these transitions with light opens thepossibility to investigate the microscopic path through which they evolve. Weperformed femtosecond (fs) transmission electron microscopy on a bi-layeredmanganite to study its response to ultrafast photoexcitation. We show that aphotoinduced temperature jump launches a pressure wave that provokes coherentoscillations of the lattice parameters, detected via ultrafast electrondiffraction. Their impact on the electronic structure are monitored viaultrafast electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), revealing the dynamics ofthe different orbitals in response to specific structural distortions.
