The size effect on pyroelectric response of ferroelectric nanowires andnanotubes is analyzed. The pyroelectric coefficient strongly increases with thewire radius decrease and diverges at critical radius Rcr corresponding to thesize-driven transition into paraelectric phase. Size-driven enhancement ofpyroelectric coupling leads to the giant pyroelectric current and voltagegeneration by the polarized ferroelectric nanoparticles in response to thetemperature fluctuation. The maximum efficiency of the pyroelectric energyharvesting and bolometric detection is derived, and is shown to approach theCarnot limit for low temperatures.
