Degeneracy of the bright single exciton spin state is a prerequisite for theproduction of triggered polarization-entangled photon pairs from the biexcitondecay of a quantum dot. Normally, however, the exciton spin states are splitdue to in-plane asymmetries. Here we demonstrate that the exciton splitting ofan individual dot can be tuned through zero by thermal annealing. Repeatedannealing blueshifts the exciton emission line of the dot, accompanied by areduction and inversion in polarization splitting. Annealing is alsodemonstrated to control the detuning between the exciton and biexcitontransitions in any selected dot.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures.
