International audienceIntroduction: Therapeutic patient education (TPE) is a field of research which is providing an increasing number of scientific publications in medical journals. An interface developed by the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) to query its MEDLINE bibliographic database, PubMed, is considered to be the best free biomedical search engine. This article concerns bibliographic research for TPE: how to use PubMed. What are the keywords which can be used?Discussion: Several search strategies that can be used by the researcher are described here. The two problems usually encountered in bibliographic research will be referred to: “noise” (too few results and low relevance) and “silence” (lack of results). PubMed’s filters have just as important a role as the optimization of the search strategy to improve bibliographic research.Conclusion: Technical improvements are expected in the use of PubMed’s filters.Introduction : L’éducation thérapeutique du patient (ETP) est un champ d’étude apportant un nombre croissant de publications scientifiques, principalement dans des revues médicales. Dans ce domaine, la référence des moteurs de recherche est PubMed, interface gratuite développée par la bibliothèque de médecine américaine (NLM) pour interroger sa base de données MEDLINE. Cet article aborde la recherche bibliographique en ETP. Comment interroger PubMed? Quels sont les mots clés disponibles?Discussion : Certaines équations de recherche utilisables par le chercheur sont décrites ici. Les deux problématiques habituellement rencontrées dans les recherches bibliographiques sont le «bruit» (trop de résultats et peu de pertinence) et le «silence» (manque de résultats).Tout aussi important que l’optimisation de l’équation de recherche elle-même, les «filtres» de PubMed ont aussi un rôle important dans l’affinement d’une recherche bibliographique.Conclusion : C’est dans l’utilisation des filtres que les prochaines améliorations techniques de PubMed sont attendues
