— In this paper we obtain the classical équations of the hnear beam theory by applying the asymptotic expansion method to a mixed vanational formulation of the three-dimensional hnear thermoelasticity model This method, similar to that developed by Ciarlet and Destuynder to obtain plate and shell models, does not require any a priori assumption either on the jorm of the unknowns (displacements and stresses) or on the applied forces Convergence « as the section of the beam goes to zero », is also studied, which gives a justification of the usual one-dimensional models
