In 1977, we have published the computations by which the récursive définition of Ackermanrfs function can be transformed into an itérative form, requiring less storage than Rice*s one. Methods for transforming recursion into itération have been improved^ so that the same resuit can be obtained now without sophisticated computations. We show on this example that it is better to transform first the récursive form into another one, better fitted for transformation into itération.
