Our editorial of the issue 65 (5) of the journal Fruits, in 2009, was dedicated to the Declaration of L’Aquila made at the G8 summit in Italy. A commitment to combating hunger in the world and to improving food security was then approved; it led to the creation of a Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP) based on a partnership among donors, the civil society, the Member countries and multilateral institutions, aiming at an increase in incomes in the poorest countries. This program resulted in the investment of US$ 481 million in 12 countries of Africa, Latin America and Asia, which is only 2% of the commitments made in L’Aquila, well short of the targets (US$ 22 billion for 2009–2011).

Will fruit be notably absent from the new international agenda of the G8?
