The Raman lidar technique as currently applied for the retrieval of WV mixing ratio profiles allows, in theory, to estimate HDO/H2 O atmospheric profiles. The objective of this study is to develop a lidar simulator and to study the feasibility of the groundbased Raman lidar HDO measurement. Thus, the characteristics of a realistic lidar system for the estimation of HDO/H2O atmospheric profiles are investigated through a set of numerical simulations.
