A study was made of the enzyme content of cell nuclei isolated from both radiosensitive and nonsensitive tissues of the rat and from pigeon liver in an attempt to demonstrate a biochemical basis for differences in radiosensitivity. Catalase activity was found to be much greater in the nuclei from nonsensitive tissues. Total-body radiation led to a decrease in nuclear-catalase content, but no significant change occurred in the activity of whole lymphatic tissues. The nuclear effect could be correlated with the dose of radiation received. Radiation of nuclear suspensions of thymus led to a decrease in activity. (auth)
