IN a paper on nitrogen partition in the urine of the races in Singapore [Campbell, 1919] it was noted that on many occasions the amount of ammonia excreted by apparently normal individuals was high when compared with the European standards. It was suggested that the climatic conditions-hot, moist and still air-in Singapore might be responsible for this acidosis. The observations recorded in the present paper were made in the first place to determine the hourly variations in the ammonia excretion and their significance, which might explain the acidosis. The excretion of amino-acids and the reaction of the urine were also considered.
