WO 3 ZnO/Fe 3 O 4  is used as a magnetic photocatalyst in the preparation of 2-substituted benzimidazoles in EtOH at RT. The key feature is the  in situ  photocatalytic oxidation of benzyl alcohols to benzaldehydes under atmospheric air in the absence of further oxidant.
