Hydrophilic antifouling surfaces are in demand for ready-to-use medical and environmental applications. A simple modification of ceramic surfaces via amphiphilic block polymers composed of hydrophilic zwitterionic segment and hydrophobic silane coupling segment was developed. For the hydrophilic block copolymers, the surfaces exhibited high hydrophilicity under dry conditions and excellent antifouling properties without hydration pretreatment. The hydrophilic surface coating requiring no pre-hydration is suitable for medical, healthcare, and environmental applications. See Madoka Takai et al ., Mater . Adv ., 2020, 1 , 2737.
