Fully spin delocalized mixed valence copper-sulfur clusters, 1 and 2, supported by μ 4 -sulfido and NS hiol donor ligands are synthesized and characterized. Wheel shaped 1 consists of Cu 2 S 2 units. The unprecedented nanoball 2 can be described as S@Cu 4 (tetrahedron)@O 6 (octahedron)@Cu 12 S 12 (cage) consisting of both Cu 2 S 2 and (μ 4 -S)Cu 4 units. The Cu 2 S 2 and (μ 4 -S)Cu 4 units resemble biological Cu A and Cu Z sites respectively.
