Efficient switching and routing of photons of different wavelengths is arequirement for realizing a quantum internet. Multimode optomechanical systemscan solve this technological challenge and enable studies of fundamentalscience involving widely separated wavelengths that are inaccessible tosingle-mode optomechanical systems. To this end, we demonstrate interferencebetween two optomechanically induced transparency processes in a diamondon-chip cavity. This system allows us to directly observe the dynamics of anoptomechanical dark mode that interferes photons at different wavelengths viatheir mutual coupling to a common mechanical resonance. This dark mode does nottransfer energy to the dissipative mechanical reservoir and is predicted toenable quantum information processing applications that are insensitive tomechanical decoherence. Control of the dark mode is also utilized todemonstrate all-optical, two-colour switching and interference with lightseparated by over 5 THz in frequency.
