The ultimate sensitivities achieved in force or mass sensing are limited bythe employed nanomechanical probes thermal noise. Its proper understanding iscritical for ultimate operation and any deviation from the underlyingfluctuation dissipation theorem should be carefully inspected. Here weinvestigate an ultrasensitive vectorial force-field sensor, a singly clampednanowire oscillating along two quasi frequency degenerated transversedirections. Immersing the nanowire in a non-conservative optical force fieldcauses dramatic modifications of its thermal noise and driven dynamics. Inregions of strong vorticity, eigenmodes orientations are distorted and losetheir initial orthogonality. Thermal noise spectra strongly deviate from thenormal mode expansion and presents an anomalous excess of noise violating thefluctuation dissipation theorem. Our model quantitatively accounts for allobservations and underlines the role of non-axial response when patching thefluctuation dissipation relation. These results reveal the intriguingproperties of thermal fluctuations in multimode nano-optomechanical systems andthe subtleties appearing when performing thermal noise thermometry in suchsystems. They are also valid in any non-symmetrically coupled dual systems.
