Magnetic skyrmions are textures behaving as quasiparticles which aretopologically different from other states. Their discovery in systems withbroken inversion symmetry sparked the search for materials containing suchmagnetic phase at room temperature. Their topological properties combined withthe chirality-related spin-orbit torques make them interesting objects tocontrol the magnetization at nanoscale. Here we show that a pair of coupledskyrmions with the same topological charge and opposite chiralities can bestabilized in a symmetric magnetic bilayer system by combiningDzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) and dipolar coupling effects. Thiseffect opens a new path for skyrmion stabilization with much lower DMI. We thendemonstrate in a single device with two different electrodes that suchskyrmions can be efficiently and independently written and shifted by electriccurrent at large velocities. The skyrmionic nature of the observedquasiparticles is further confirmed by using the gyrotropic force as atopological filter. These results set the ground for emerging spintronictechnologies where issues concerning skyrmion stability, nucleation, andpropagation are paramount.
