A convenient Cadiot-Chodkiewicz protocol that facilitates the use of low molecular weight alkyne coupling partners is described. The method entails an in situ elimination from a dibromoolefin precursor and immediate subjection to copper-catalyzed conditions, circumventing the hazards of volatile brominated alkynes.
