Control of the angular momentum of light is a key technology fornext-generation nano-optical devices and optical communications, includingquantum communication and encoding. We propose an approach to controllablygenerate circularly polarized light from a circular hole in a metal film usingan electron beam by coherently exciting transition radiation and lightscattering from the hole through surface plasmon polaritons. The circularlypolarized light generation is confirmed by fully polarimetric four-dimensionalcathodoluminescence mapping where angle-resolved spectra are simultaneouslyobtained. The obtained intensity and Stokes maps show clear interferencefringes as well as almost fully circularly polarized light generation withcontrollable parities by electron beam position. By applying this approach to ametal film with three holes, a vortex field with a phase singularity isvisualized in the middle of the holes.
