Layered magnetic materials are becoming a major platform for futurespin-based applications. Particularly the air-stable van der Waals compoundCrSBr is attracting considerable interest due to its prominentmagneto-transport and magneto-optical properties. In this work, we observe atransition from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic behavior in CrSBr crystalsexposed to high-energy, non-magnetic ions. Already at moderate fluences, ionirradiation induces a remanent magnetization with hysteresis adapting to theeasy-axis anisotropy of the pristine magnetic order up to a criticaltemperature of 110 K. Structure analysis of the irradiated crystals inconjunction with density functional theory calculations suggest that thedisplacement of constituent atoms due to collisions with ions and the formationof interstitials favors ferromagnetic order between the layers.
