In this paper, we present a mathematical approach in estimating transitionenergy of type-I core-shell quantum dots (CSQDs) in strong and weak confinementof charge carriers within the core materials. We will do this by usingeffective-mass approximation together with a single-band model. The effects ofpotential step of conduction band and valence band on confinement strength willbe discussed. It can be seen at the end of this paper that for a same sizeCSQDs, CSQDs with bigger potential steps will have stronger carriersconfinement and with more localized excitons.
