))whowereundergoing a single birth, past 37 weeks of gestation andscheduled for an elective cesarean section.The patientswere randomlyassignedtosevendosegroupsof the hyperbaric bupivacaine 0.75%: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and11 mg associated with a xed dose of fentanyl 10 g (in 0.2ml)and morphine 200 g (0.4ml) administered intrathecally. Thespinal–epidural anesthetic technique was used. Each groupincluded at least 5 patients.The primary outcome was the success or failure of the“induction component”, dened as sensory blockade at aT6 level or higher 10min after intrathecal anesthesia wasadministered; and the “operation component”, dened as ananesthetic blockadethatdidnotrequireanalgesicsupplemen-tation.The secondary outcomes were blood pressure, dose ofphenylephrine used in hemodynamic management, intra-operative pain, incidence of nausea/vomiting, maternalsatisfaction and time lapsed from the end of surgery untiltransfer to recovery.
