Actions for extended objects based on Transgression and Chern-Simons formsfor space-time groups and supergroups provide a gauge theoretic framework inwhich to embed previously studied String and Brane actions, extending them ininteresting ways that may be useful in a future non perturbative formulation ofString Theory. In this Letter I investigate aspects of the actions of thesetheories, including equations of motion and boundary conditions, gauge andspace-time symmetries, and Dirac quantization of tensions. This theoreticalframework is shown to include in certain limit and for a suitable gauge groupthe standard Bosonic String Theory.
