The transition from von Neumann's projective strong measurement to Aharonov'sweak measurement has recently received large attention, theoretical andexperimental. In this work, we present a general approach to describe theweak-to-strong measurement transition for Fock-state-based pointer pointerstates, and analyze in some details the case of coherent pointer states. Apossible realization of our measurement scheme using trapped ions is alsodiscussed.
