Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is the most common complication occurring after cardiac surgery. Multiple studies have shown significantly increased risks of stroke, myocardial infarction, and death associated with POAF. Current prophylaxis strategies are inadequate to eliminate this problem.
