Slip transmission across $\alpha-\beta$ interfaces is of great significancein understanding the strength of $\alpha-\beta$ Ti alloys for aerospaceapplications. Molecular statics (MS) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulationswere conducted to investigate the mechanisms of slip transmission of $\langle a\rangle$ prismatic screw dislocations across the $\alpha-\beta$ interface sideface. In these simulations, the $\alpha$ phase consisted of pure HCP Ti whereasthe $\beta$ phase was modeled as Ti$_{60}$Nb$_{40}$ BCC random alloy using aTi-Nb interatomic potential. Firstly, the misfit dislocations structure on the$\alpha-\beta$ interface side face has been characterized from MS simulations.This predicted dislocation structure is in good agreement with experimentalobservations in Ti-alloys. Secondly, MD simulations of the interaction of$[a_1]$, $[a_2]$, and $[a_3]$ prismatic screw dislocations with the interfaceside face in an $\alpha-\beta$ bi-crystal were performed at differenttemperatures. A distinct barrier of the interface side face to different typesof dislocation transmission was found. The origin of this anisotropy in theslip transmission is due to the relative misalignment of the slip systemsbetween the $\alpha$ and the $\beta$ phases from the Burgers orientationrelationship. Finally, the mechanisms of slip transmission of each dislocationtype were analyzed in a detailed atomistic description and compared toexperimental observations.
