Vadose and phreatic zone are over exploited and have to be recharged by appropriate method of storing harvested rain water in shafts and galleries at different reduced levels starting for 920 m to 800 m. 1250 sq. km. BBMP area will yield an annual rain water of 38 TMC out of which 50% can be recovered. Currently 800 MLD of waste water is generated and with the additional supply of 500 MLD water under Cauvery Stage IV, the waste water discharge is likely to increase to 1200 MLD. Multiple agencies like BMRD, BBMP, BDA, BWSSB, KUWSDB, KPTCL, DMG, CGWB, Lake Development Authority, Geological Survey of India, Forest, Revenue authorities etc., operate independently. It is better to have an integrated authority to execute the schemes of rain water harvesting, ground water recharge, treatment of waste water and maintenance of lakes for sustainable supply of water to selected wards.
