The Higgs boson, recently discovered with a mass of 125.09$\pm$0.24 GeV isknown to mediate the masses of elementary particles, but only 2% of the mass ofthe nucleon. Extending a previous investigation [1] and including thestrange-quark sector, hadron masses are derived from the quark condensate ofthe QCD vacuum and from the effects of the Higgs boson. These calculationsinclude the $\pi$ meson, the nucleon and the scalar mesons $\sigma(600)$,$\kappa(800)$, $a_0(980)$ $f_0(980)$ and $f_0(1370)$. The predicted second$\sigma$ meson $\sigma'(1344)=|s\bar{s}\rangle$, is investigated and identifiedwith the $f_0(1370)$ meson. An outlook is given on the hyperons $\Lambda$,$\Sigma^{0,\pm}$ and $\Xi^{0,-}$.

Mass generation via the Higgs boson and the quark condensate of the QCD vacuum
