This erratum is published because author detected an error in the results of SPSS reported in the second paragraph of the section: Exploratory analysis of the data (ANOVA analysis). The correction should be read as: To check for a possible bias due to differences in size of the countries with presence in ARWU, a one-way between-groups analysis of variance was conducted to explore the impact of country sizes on levels of research performance on their university systems, as measured by the ARWU aggregated indicators. Countries were split into three groups according to their GDP size: large (10), medium (11), and small (11). The Levene’s test confirms that we have not violated the homogeneity of variance assumption in any of the indicators. There was no statistically significant difference at the p = 0.05 level in the scores for the three groups. AlU: F(2, 29) = 0.555, p = 0.580; AwD: F(2, 29) = 0.268, p = 0.767; HiCi: F(2, 29) = 1.947, p = 0.161; NaS: F(2, 29) = 1.185, p = 0.320; PuB: F(2, 29) = 1.542, p = 0.231. Post-hoc comparisons using the Tukey HSD test (Hsu 1996) indicated that mean scores for the three groups and all the indicators were not statistically different. Indicator(p): AlU(0.700), AwD(0.717), HiCi(0.356), NaS(0.312), PuB(0.128), confirming therefore that the methodology used did not introduce any bias due to differences in size of the countries with presence in ARWU.
