Effects invoked by the passage of the cosmic string through the Earth areinvestigated. The cosmic string induces global oscillations of the Earth whoseamplitude and acceleration both linearly depend on the string line density. Forthe line density maximally allowed by the cosmic observations, the oscillationsare perceivable even to human beings and may cause serious damages to theenvironment. Use of the sophisticated accelerograph enables us to detect thestring of a line density down to ten orders of magnitude smaller than thecosmologically relevant value.
