Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is a common reason for a woman to present at her gynaecologist. In this issue of Gynecological Surgery, a new terminology for AUB is proposed. The terminology used at present is not accurate for the characterisation of a normal menstruation. The need for a consensus on the nomenclature and the clinical application of the terms describing AUB is urgently needed.
