This paper presents a configuration design optimization method forthree-dimensional curved beam built-up structures having maximized fundamentaleigenfrequency. We develop the method of computation of design velocity fieldand optimal design of beam structures constrained on a curved surface, whereboth designs of the embedded beams and the curved surface are simultaneouslyvaried during the optimal design process. A shear-deformable beam model is usedin the response analyses of structural vibrations within an isogeometricframework using the NURBS basis functions. An analytical design sensitivityexpression of repeated eigenvalues is derived. The developed method isdemonstrated through several illustrative examples.
