In the present paper we investigate a method to describe low-energyscattering events of pions and nuclei within a Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck(BUU) transport model. Implementing different scenarios of mediummodifications, we studied the mean free path of pions in nuclear matter at lowmomenta and compared pion absorption simulations to data. Pursuing thesestudies we have shown, that also in a regime of a long pionic wave length thesemi-classical BUU model still generates reasonable results. We present resultson pi-induced events in the regime of 10 MeV < Tkin < 130 MeV and photo-inducedpi pi production at incident beam energies of 400-460 MeV.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, Contribution to the "Workshop on In-Medium Hadron  Physics", Giessen, Germany, 11-13 November 200
