Summary  Chronic active hepatitis in drug abusers tends to be a histologically less severe disease than in non drug abusers in whom it may be of the lupoid variety. Chronic persistent hepatitis tends to persist in drug abusers (this may be due to continued abuse) and regress more frequently in non drug abusers.
