In glucose-fed hamster fibroblast cultures maintained in a serum- and glutamine-free medium, DNP (2,4-dinitrophenol) has no effect on the total cellular pool of ATP. Under these circumstances a marked effect of DNP on the hexose transport system can be demonstrated.
