Zusammenfassung 1. Isoliertes Kiemenepithel vonMytilus edulis überlebt unter „Normalbedingungen“ (Luftdruck, 10° bis 20° C, Fundortwasser von 15 ‰ S) im alkalischen Milieu (pH 7 bis 10) am besten. 2. Die Dauer des Cilienschlages während Druckeinwirkung (500 atm) steigt in dem pH-Bereich von 5 bis 9 in einem annähernd logarithmischen Sinne. Bei Erhöhung des Druckes auf 600 atm nimmt die Empfindlichkeit des Gewebes im alkalischen Bereich deutlich zu. 3. Das Maximum der zellulären Druckresistenz wird bei Erhöhung des hydrostatischen Druckes vom alkalischen in den sauren Bereich verschoben. Abstract Isolated gill tissue ofMytilus edulis survives in the laboratory under standard conditions (air pressure, 10° to 20° C, habitat salinity of 15 ‰ S); best results are obtained in a basic medium (pH 7 to 10). The time of maintenance of ciliary activity under the influence of pressure (500 atm) increases nearly logarithmically over the pH range 5 to 9. When pressure is increased up to 600 atm, the sensitivity of the tissue towards this factor increases, especially in the basic medium. These data are not representative for pressure resistance. Values for this resistance are obtained by observing the survival of tissue after exposure to pressure and decompression after a specific period of time. The maximum of cellular pressure resistance of isolated gill tissue shifts from the basic to the acid range, when a 3 hour exposure to hydrostatic pressure is increased from 400 to 600 atm.
