The stimulation of the pleasure centres in our brain by electricity or other means induces intense pleasures. Despite its discovery for nearly seven decades, this method has not been widely used and discussed. Relatively small investment in perfecting this technique would give us a device for achieving easy and ‘supra-maximal’ pleasure that would obliviate pain, depression, and replace harmful drugs. With adequate safeguards, we could also use genetic engineering to transform ourselves and make us much more capable of happiness, surpassing the ‘supra-maximal’ pleasure of brain stimulation.
