International audienceCollaborative industrial systems are becoming anemergent paradigm towards flexibility. One promising solution areservice-oriented industrial automation systems, but integrated softwaremethodologies and major frameworks for the engineering are stillmissing. This paper presents an overview of the current results on aunified and integrated methodology based on intrinsic and novel featuresof Petri nets. These nets are applied to the modeling, analysis, servicemanagement, embedded software controllers, decision support system andmonitoring, to improve the fundamentals in the engineering ofservice-oriented automation systems. The solution may contribute to thereduction of the design, operational and reconfiguration phases in thelife-cycle of novel automation environments. Results were obtained anddiscussed from simulations and real industrial demonstrators
