In order to succeed in close-to-saturated markets, companies must offer services that are tailored to suit their customers’ individual needs. This necessitates intensive interaction between the supplier and the customer. In order to produce increasingly individualised products close to customer markets, in comparison with today’s production structures, a much larger number of factories will be necessary. Digital tools and interactive input media support participatory planning and promote the documentation of knowledge as well as the transfer of knowledge among different locations.
