This international standard defines requirements in terms of food safety applied to organizations in the food chain or organizations that support it (see Fig. 4.1 for relevant keywords). In 2004, 54 experts were registered as members of the working group responsible for the development of ISO 22000:2005, and the decision to publish it was taken unanimously by the participating countries of ISO/TC 34/SC 17. Despite the high number of participants of this committee, any change to the standard can only be approved when 75% of its voting members are in agreement (ISO 2005a).
