This book consists of 19 papers drawn from high quality journals and conferences and reproduced here in their original format. The papers are collected into chapters dealing with different aspects of object-oriented (OO) testing. Each chapter contains two or three papers and the authors have written excellent introductions to each chapter which summarise each paper, draw out the key points, and sometimes compare the ideas presented in the papers. There are seven chapters. Chapter 1 is entitled ‘OO Testing Problems’ and contains three papers which have stood the test of time and provide good introductions to the difficulties that OO systems present to the tester. Chapter 2 (‘Specification and Verification’) covers the area of testability which puts forward the, not unreasonable, argument that OO testing is easier if the system is designed well (and proposes a large number of requirements for good testability), and a technique which specifies the causal relation that exists between methods in a class (and then tests according to this relation). Chapter 3, entitled ‘Unit Testing and Integration Testing’ includes three papers. The first presents a method for test case selection for classes based on data bindings (essentially shared data between methods).
