In this paper we argue that when gauge invariance is taken intoconsideration, there is no consistent geometric framework of Finsler class thatcan accommodate Randers type spaces. In this context, an alternativenon-Finslerian framework for Randers spacetimes compatible with gaugeinvariance is introduced.
