We present an overview of magnetotransport measurements on the heavy-fermionsuperconductor CeIrIn$_5$. Sensitive measurements of the Hall effect andmagnetoresistance (MR) are used to elucidate the low temperature phase diagramof this system. The normal-state magnetotransport is highly anomalous, andexperimental signatures of a pseudogap-like precursor state tosuperconductivity as well as evidence for two distinct scattering timesgoverning the Hall effect and the MR are observed. Our observations point outthe influence of antiferromagnetic fluctuations on the magnetotransport in thisclass of materials. The implications of these findings, both in the context ofunconventional superconductivity in heavy-fermion systems as well as inrelation to the high temperature superconducting cuprates are discussed.
