We show that misfit strain originated from the film-substrate latticemismatch strongly increases the value of the quadratic magnetoelectriccoupling. The giant magnetoelectric coupling, size effects and misfit straincause strong changes of ferroic films phase diagrams at zero external magneticand electric fields, in particular, the transformation of antiferromagneticphase into ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic ones for compressive or tensilemisfit strains correspondingly as well as thickness induced paramagnetic or/andparaelectric phases appearance. Ferromagnetism appearance and magnetoelectriccoupling increase in thin ferroelectric-antiferromagnetic films is in agreementwith available experimental data and opens the way for tailoring of ferroicfilms magnetic and electric properties.
